Yamini turns entrepreneur, after getting trained in income-generating skills
Yamini, an enterprising woman from an economically weaker community from Bhiwandi, in Thane decided to learn the income-generating skill of Warli art under LTIMindtree’s empowerment program. Yamini trained 40 more women from her community in Warli art. Now, she is all set to start a company for the artisans who will produce goods with Warli art on them. Humans of LTI
One of the most powerful things you can do as a human is to help another human in need. That’s what Michael Jacobsen of LTIMindtree did when he drove all the way from Copenhagen, Denmark to Poland to deliver supplies to the Ukrainian refugees. Michael recalls his experience…. “One morning, before work, as my friend and I were discussing the many important events happening around the globe, we both agreed that the Ukraine crisis was a horrible situation that will affect the Ukrainian people for generations and will be a sad chapter in history. It propelled us to feel compassionate about the victims and think what we could do to help them. We decided to rent 3 minibuses and drive to the Polish and Ukrainian border with much-needed supplies and to bring refugees back to Denmark. It was initially just my friend, Peter, and myself, but soon we had 5 more friends join us. On Sunday, March 20th, we picked up the minibuses, loaded them with food and water, medical supplies, and other items such as children’s wheelchairs, etc. and drove to the southern part of Denmark where we took the ferry from Denmark to Germany and continued to Poland. The town of Przemysl has the largest border entry to Ukraine and the largest refugee camp is placed there. We quickly split up the tasks between us, and some of us coordinated with Danish volunteers who were present in the camp, while others delivered the supplies and I signed up to become an “official” driver of this project. That Monday was spent meeting the families who needed a lift to Denmark. At around 18:00 hours, we had 17 family members (mostly women and children) who were seeking refuge to Denmark. Despite the horrible and indescribable situation, it was positive to see how events also can bring people together. From the brave Ukrainians fleeing their home country and leaving their husbands, fathers, sons, and brothers, to the Polish townspeople who welcomed their neighbors in vast numbers, to the volunteers from all over Europe working in refugee camps, to the Danish host families welcoming the Ukrainians into their own homes and country.” This story is a reminder to all of us that humanity is above all! #HumansofLTI
